At Legacy Live Oak, we have seen many trees planted by parents and grandparents intended as a legacy for their children and grandchildren. These very trees often self-destruct from defects within 30 years of planting; the well-intended legacy is lost...forever. It is indeed a needless heartbreak.
Too often the lifespan of the urban tree is diminished as defects are allowed to develop. Over time, these unnoticed defects increase risk of failure, threatening life and property. Unlike structural pruning in young specimens, delayed pruning of medium to large trees often results in large, permanently disfiguring wounds. The ensuing decay decreases the safety, lifespan and beauty of the tree.
Southern Live Oaks, for example, can live over 1500 years, yet many are doomed to future failure from defects developing within the first 20 years.
